Privacy and Data

The calculators run in the browser, the numbers you type are never sent to a server, and only aggregate traffic is counted.

Calculator inputs stay in the browser

The calculators on this site run in the reader's browser, and the numbers typed into them are never sent to a server. A position size, a margin figure or a pip value is worked out on the device, not on our side. Nothing about a calculation is stored with an identity attached.

That design is deliberate. A gold (XAU/USD) calculator often asks for account size and risk, which are sensitive, and we do not want that data leaving the reader's device. The reference price shown, about 4275.0, is a static figure for illustration, not a live feed tied to a reader.

Affiliate links are marked and tracked without identifying you

Some links to brokers on this site are affiliate links, which means we may receive a commission if you open an account after clicking through. These links are marked as affiliate links, and the tracking works by placing a cookie on your device that records the referral source. The cookie does not contain your name, email, or trading account details; it only signals that a visit originated from this site.

The affiliate tracking cookie is set by the broker or its affiliate network, not by us, and it expires according to the broker’s own policy. We do not receive information about your individual trades, account balance, or identity from the broker. Any commission we earn does not affect the price you pay or the service you receive, and it does not influence the factual content of our calculators or guides.

You can avoid affiliate tracking by not clicking on affiliate links, by using browser settings that block third-party cookies, or by clearing cookies after your visit. Blocking these cookies does not prevent you from using the site or its calculators; it only means the referral may not be recorded.

The cookies this site sets and what each kind does

This site sets two kinds of cookies: strictly necessary cookies and analytics cookies. Strictly necessary cookies keep the site functioning, for example by remembering that you have dismissed a notice or by maintaining a secure session while you move between pages. They do not track you across other websites and are deleted when you close your browser or after a short period.

Analytics cookies collect aggregated, non-identifying information about how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed and how long a visit lasts. They do not record the numbers you enter into calculators or any personal details. You can block or delete these cookies through your browser settings without losing access to the calculators or the rest of the site.

No advertising or profiling cookies are set by this site. If you follow a link to a broker, that broker may set its own cookies on its domain, and those are governed by the broker’s cookie policy, not this one. We do not have access to or control over cookies set by third-party sites.

Your rights over data and how to exercise them

You have the right to access, correct, or delete any personal data we hold about you, and to object to processing or request restriction. Because this site collects almost no personal data, the most common request is to confirm what is stored in your browser, which you can check and clear yourself through your browser settings. For any data you have sent us by email, you can ask us to delete it.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the email address on the contact page and describe what you want. We will respond within a reasonable period, normally within 30 days, and may ask for proof of identity only if necessary to protect your data. There is no charge for making a request unless it is manifestly unfounded or repetitive.

If you are in Nigeria, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Nigeria Data Protection Commission if you believe your data has been mishandled. We will cooperate fully with any such investigation. Exercising your rights will not affect your access to the site or its calculators.

Brokers set their own cookies

When a reader follows an affiliate link to a broker, the broker sets its own cookies under its own privacy policy. That policy is the broker's, not ours, and it governs what the broker records, including any referral attribution. A reader should read it before opening an account.

We cannot control a broker's cookies or the data it collects during account opening and funding. For a Nigerian reader, that includes the identity and payment details a broker requires for naira bank transfers or card funding. The broker is the party that holds those details, and questions about them go to the broker.

Traffic counts and local storage

We count traffic only in aggregate, to see which pages are read, and we do not build profiles of individual readers. Local storage on the reader's own device holds that reader's preferences, such as a chosen lot size or display setting, so the page behaves consistently on a return visit. Clearing browser storage removes it.

Aggregate counts do not identify a person. They tell us a page was opened, not who opened it. We do not sell data and we do not pass reader details to brokers.

Third parties that may receive data when you use the site

The third parties that may receive data are limited to the analytics provider that processes aggregated visit statistics and the affiliate networks that record referral clicks if you follow a broker link. The analytics provider receives your IP address in truncated form and does not receive the numbers you type into calculators or any personal details you do not volunteer.

If you follow a link to a broker, that broker and its affiliate network will receive the referral information described above and may set their own cookies. Their handling of your data is governed by their privacy policies, which we encourage you to read before opening an account. We do not sell, rent, or share your personal data with any other third party for marketing purposes.

No payment processor, bank, or card network receives data from this site because the site does not process deposits or withdrawals. Funding a broker account happens on the broker’s platform, and any bank transfer or card details you provide there are handled solely by that broker and its payment partners.

How long data is kept and what causes it to be deleted

Data is kept only as long as necessary for the purpose it was collected. Analytics data is retained in aggregated form for a limited period set by the analytics provider, after which it is deleted or anonymised. Affiliate tracking cookies expire according to the broker’s or network’s policy, typically within a set number of days, and are deleted automatically when they expire or when you clear your browser.

Any email correspondence you send us is kept for as long as needed to resolve your query and for a reasonable period afterwards for record-keeping, after which it is deleted. Local storage entries created by the site remain on your device until you clear them through your browser settings; they are not deleted by us remotely.

Deleting cookies or clearing local storage on your device removes the data stored there immediately. If you request deletion of any personal data we hold, we will remove it from our systems unless we are required by law to retain it. We do not keep backups of personal data beyond the period needed for operational continuity.

What the site stores on your device and what it never stores

The site stores only what is needed to remember your preferences and keep the calculator working: a small local storage entry for your chosen currency display and a session flag so you do not have to re-enter settings on every visit. It never stores your name, email address, phone number, bank account details, card numbers, or the specific figures you type into any calculator. Those inputs are processed in your browser and are not transmitted to or saved on our servers.

The site does not store any trading account credentials, BVN, or other identity documents. If you contact us by email, your message and email address are kept only for as long as needed to respond and are not added to a marketing list without your explicit request. Nothing you type into the margin or pip-value calculators is written to local storage, cookies, or any server log.

Any data saved in your browser remains under your control. You can clear it at any time through your browser settings, and doing so will reset your display preferences but will not affect any broker account you may have. The site does not use fingerprinting, canvas tracking, or any technique designed to identify you across sessions without your knowledge.

FAQ

Common questions

What does Harcourt Cost collect when I use the calculators?

The calculator inputs you type are processed to produce the result; the desk does not need your name, account number or broker login to do that. Standard technical data such as page requests may be logged by the hosting layer. No trading account credentials should ever be entered into any field on this site.

Do you ask for my bank details or card number?

No. Harcourt Cost never asks for naira bank account details, Visa or Mastercard numbers, e-payment references or crypto wallet keys, because it does not process payments or fund accounts. If a page or message attributed to this desk requests any of those, treat it as fraudulent and do not respond.

Do you sell reader data to brokers?

No. Reader data is not sold, and an editorial partnership does not include handing over contact details. If you choose to contact a broker through a link on this site, that broker's own privacy terms apply from the moment you leave, and you should read them before submitting anything.

Are cookies used on the site?

Basic cookies or similar storage may be used to keep the site working and to measure which pages are read. They are not used to build a trading profile of you. You can block or clear them in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may then behave differently.

How do I ask for a copy of what you hold about me?

Write to the desk through the contact page and describe what you sent and when. Because the site collects very little, there is often nothing beyond a contact message to retrieve. Requests are handled by the editorial team, and you can ask for a contact message to be deleted.
